This weather is pretty damn fine isn’t it? It’s pretty hot and pretty muggy which sometimes in turn doesn’t actually make me feel altogether very pretty …. I’m sure I’m not the only one who suffers from heat induced swelling or sweaty blotchy makeup (yes I know, a lady doesn’t sweat – she glows).

I love a long hot summer – but hells bells, I’ve been a bit of Sweaty Betty lately let me tell you…

The air-conditioning in the office decided not to cooperate last week – which brought on that hot and bothered feeling; and then there was a power failure at my gym which meant zero air conditioning – it was like a sauna, you could literally see the heat radiating from each person.

Speaking of hot, a few friends and I popped into Dida’s Wine bar last week. I hadn’t been there before so I was looking forward to it all day. Dida’s is a lovely popular bar/tapas lounge, and it was jam-packed at 6pm when we arrived on a hot Friday night, thirsty as a wooden dog.

We decided to go somewhere different to eat after a few drinks and headed off for a curry down the road – yes call us crazy: Indian on a balmy summer night – but we’d been wanting to test drive Shahi, and maybe it’s just a theory but they say eating hot food (or drinking hot tea), cools you down when you’re feeling like a hot tamale…whoever ‘they’ are.

Shahi was a lovely pleasant surprise. Always thought it was just a takeaway joint, but there is upstairs seating on two separate levels over looking Jervois Road. Sorta felt like we were dining in their living room or attic, which was kinda cool. Good choice – and yes I was feeling less hot and bothered afterwards.

Have a great weekend and stay cool ’till after school

So this website/blog business is up and running, and I’m enjoying reporting in with the 4-1-1 on my latest observations. Funnily enough, when you search on Google for “Girl about Auckland” the search results return escort agencies and strippers…..I don’t know what that says about me….

This morning on TVNZ’s Breakfast show, there was a segment on ‘How Not to Be a Spinster‘. Being a single wahine in my early 30s, I found myself nodding along, relating to fears of living alone childless with cats, until you are thrown a zimmer frame or carried out in a casket.

But one things for sure, I’m doing my damndest to get out and about in Auckland, but without reeking of desperation – and am very far away from exposing cougar claws.

Yes I am experimenting with online dating (talking to and meeting some crazy-ass men), and yes I pretty much accept any invitation to hang with friends and family (there may be men there, it’s a single girls’ golden rule), but it’s also important to look after oneself too - visit the gym on a regular basis, have an early night occasionally, and ring ya mum every once in a while.

I’m a firm believer that when one door shuts, another door opens and I’m optimistic about the future. It’s all good in my hood.

Rock n Roll

Golly ain’t it lovely now that Spring appears to FINALLY be here?!

I quite literally have a Spring in my step and want to see fields of daffodils so I can go crazy and run amok in the sunshine. I do feel sorry for all you hayfever sufferers tho.

Spring is my favourite season. The happy season between the grey gloomy winter and the hot hazy summer. Spring means you can ditch the clingy tights and woolly jumpers, break out the fake tan, and don the pretty skirts. Crumbs, it’s choice.

Some people go insanely mental when they think Winter is OVER. The short-shorts, oversized sunglasses, jandals and tank tops appear, accessorised by goose-pimples and a sort of hunched over look from being cold, but those people don’t care. They don’t care cos it’s practically summer, and time to bare their skin, gawd-damnit!

I’ve noticed a bit of Spring loving in the air too. Couples seem to have come out of the wood work, away from their couch snuggling to full PDA right in the middle of the street. Lovely. (Give me a month and I’ll be over it, wishing them away to a dark cupboard somewhere).

The gym also appears to be getting a sudden rush of people freaking out about having to expose their bodies, literally falling over each other on the mad dash scramble to the treadmill, cursing those ‘Please limit your time to 15minutes during peak hour’ signs.

Ah yes, Spring is grand. Here’s to more good weather please.

See ya
